Westerner Days Fair & Exposition Event Launch

May 3, 2018 | Red Deer, AB – Buckle-up and let’s officially kick off Central Alberta’s largest summer celebration! Westerner Park hosted the Westerner Days Fair & Exposition event this afternoon showcasing our Westerner spirit, this year’s captivating entertainment and what’s new at the Fair for 2018.

Chief Executive Officer and General Manager, Ben Antifaiff took to the stage to thank local country music star Alecia Aichelle for performing as attendees mingled before the presentation began.

“In the spirit of our theme, we have included 2 country nights to our Main Stage lineup, but we will get to this in just a moment…” Antifaiff said to an eager crowd. The entertainment lineup continuously sparks interest and always ends with a bang as the fireworks will continue to take place following the concerts at 11:00 pm.

Westerner Park staff addressed our community, volunteers, sponsors, partners and media that make it possible for Westerner Park to host world class entertainment and excellent varieties of programming during Westerner Days.

“With your support, we are able to offer a variety of programs and entertainment that our guests enjoy, ensuring that Westerner Days Fair & Exhibition continue to be Central Alberta’s Largest Summer Celebration.” Antifaiff explained.

Nancy Paish, Business Development Manager, spoke to the “We All Play” and “Share the Fair” programs. “With the support of our sponsors, these programs give back to our community by providing families the opportunity to create memories and experience Westerner Days.” Paish stated.

Many new activities were showcased at the launch for Westerner Days. The Fair has brought in mouthwatering additions to the Grub Hub. Feeling extra adventurous? Try a Pork Belly & Kimchi Grilled Cheese or a Hot Ice Cream encased in a delectable donut sandwich! If you want the traditional fair food, the always popular mini donuts or a classic poutine will be available. The Holiday Inn 19th Street market is also getting an upgrade to include “Arts at the Market” where local and unique artists throughout Central Alberta will showcase their masterpieces.

Due to the construction of the new Exhibition Hall the Agricultural programming has been reinvented. The Peavey Mart Discovery Barn will showcase various animals and activities. You can stop by the “Hen House” to learn all about raising backyard hen’s right here in Red Deer, the “Chick Hatchery” where if you are lucky you will get to witness a baby chick piping for the first time or Check out the “Kid Pen” before you leave…made specifically for our baby goats.

Off-site events create a western buzz leading up to Westerner Days and keep that enthusiasm alive throughout the Fair. Last year there was 17 official off-site events hosted by businesses that raised more than $23,000 for local nonprofits. Main Stage entertainment for Westerner Days 2018:
Wednesday July 18, presented by Real Country 95.5 and Real Country 93.3 opening performer is Alecia Aichelle for Aaron Goodvin and Aaron Pritchett.

Thursday July 19, presented by 106.7 The Drive, the opening performer Iron Buffalo for Lee Aaron and Helix.

Friday July 20, presented by Real Country 95.5 and Real Country 93.3 is The Dean Ray Band, opening for River Town Saints and The Washboard Union.

Saturday July 21, presented by BIG 105 local performer Randi Boulton opens for Virginia to Vegas and Dear Rogue.
